STEAL ‘EM BLIND The poker equivalent of stealing little Timmy’s lunch money is stealing the blinds. Odds are the players in the blind positions – both small and big blind – don’t have quality playing hands. But their money is out there because of the tough luck at being in the wrong place at the wrong time -- it was their turn to post. When your position is right, and no other player found his hand worth playing, is it so wrong to come over the top of the blinds and take their money? Well, there’s certainly a possibility that one of the blinds has a strong hand. And betting to steal the blinds solely for the purpose of stealing the blinds may be a little fool-hardy. Optimally, it would be good to have some relevant chance of winning the hand. Timing is key as well. You want to pick on the “Timmys” of the world, not the “Brunos.” And be careful about coming in over a large-stack player. The extra investment doesn’t mean as much. And be equally wary about raising to a short stack. You may find yourself staring down the barrel of an All-in. To protect against being spotted as a bully, you can vary the size of your Poker bets in a blind-stealing situation. |
