When playing poker it is very important for you to know when you should raise or bet. If you are a beginner at poker, you may want to go over different situations so you know when to bet, went to raise and when to fold.  For instance, you may want to raise if you know someone has a better hand in new and they folded.  You can also raise if you know that someone has a worse hand then you and they call.  "You can also do something that is called "buy the button" which means you get the last position and not everyone folds.

Now if you did the buy button option or you were already in the last position, then on the next round you can choose to take a free card.  You can also "buy yourself outs" which also means to make someone fold.  Now this may not make a person like you but it does improve your chances of winning a bigger pot in the end.  You can also use your bet to help tell you more about your opponent's hand.  This can help you improve your choices further along in the game.  Now some of the above situations may not be good for all games but in general they can work quite well for you.  It is important that you need to know when to raise and went to bet and even went fold.   After all, all the players in the game or after the same goal, and that is to win the pot.
