TABLE TALK One of the best ways to gain information from players is table talk. Really good players will use anything to gain information that might help them later in a hand. Usually, there will be one or two “talkers” at the table. Some are just naturally chatty and borderline obnoxious. Others, however, talk for a reason. They use charm to disarm their opponents. They interview you. They find out information. Then they take what they learn and use it against you. Many players have mastered this art online as well in the form of the chat box. Human beings by nature like to talk about themselves. Good table talkers can intimidate, get you to relax, get you to like them. If you like them, you might not be as aggressive in a hand as you like. As you can see, this is a gift and a skill. If you see a player getting information out of you, use it to your advantage. Lead them in a different direction. Don’t be afraid to use a little deception. After all, there is no lying in poker. It is a game of deception. There are rules to follow, certainly, but almost anything you can do to help win hands later is fair game. Not everyone has the charm to be a good table talker. But if you recognize it, you can prevent it from affecting you, and even use it to your advantage. To play online poker at a leading poker room see www.mansionpoker.com |
