Poker is a game that often encourages a little extracurricular activity in the form of drinking. In recreational poker with your friends, this is fine – even encouraged.

But when real money is on the line, it’s not a good idea. Poker is a game that involves a wide array of skills, and it can be difficult enough to succeed under the best of circumstances. But impairing your ability to play isn’t always the best course of action.

However, many players do this anyway. In a live game, it’s not too hard to spot the player who has had too much to drink. They slur their speech and generally act like people who are drunk.

Online play is much tougher, but you can still spot them because they chat a lot and often play fast and loose.

Some things to look for when playing online: Players who chat quite a bit, often with profanity or other inappropriate words or behavior. Also, look for players who in the chat reveal things that have nothing to do with poker and aren’t about sports or other common events. While playing, you are looking for players who bust our quickly and then rebuy and get aggressive again. Usually, these players are alcohol impaired.

Try to avoid excessive drinking while at the table; and take advantage of the players who do. You will find it
