LIVE PLAY DIFFERENCES If you are accustomed to playing online and have never played in a casino or poker room, you will find several important differences, and should take some time to familiarize yourself with them. There are several things that can throw an online player off his or her game. One thing to look out for is the “string bet,” which is physically impossible online. A string bet is an announced raise without the amount, where the player puts chips in the pot, then reaches back and put more chips in the pot. This move is not allowed. The second group of chips are not allowed. This is easily avoided by simply announcing the amount of the raise, or putting all the chips out at once. Also, make sure it is your turn to act. It is easy to get lost at the table and act before it is your turn. This is an unfortunate move, because it changes the dynamics of the table. Another thing you should make sure to do is cap your cards; that is use a chip or something else small to cover your cards and keep them from being unintentionally mucked. Also be sure to protect your cards when you look at them; many players reveal too much of the cards and the player net to him can see them. While these seem like small issues, they can be destructive if they happen at the wrong time. To play online poker at a leading poker room see www.mansionpoker.com |
